As an activist, he supports California as a leader in solving the Climate Crisis now imperiling nature and civilization. The San DIego Energy District Foundation was founded by Bill Powers and Lane Sharman to advance energy choice in San Diego and California. SDED and Sharman have been instrumental in the City of Solana Beach for community education and action. The Solana Beach program, Solana Energy Alliance, is now operational as of June 2018.
Sharman works throughout California. Transform Water and Power has proposed to California Department of Water Resources a novel way to remediate the Salton Sea. Instead of grabbing water from the Gulf of California, Transform proposed the construction of Bio-Islands on the surface of the Salton Sea. The islands contain atmospheric water generators, solar energy, and native plants combined harmoniously to restore one of the most toxic sites in the world.
Sharman instructs on community water and power development; advises on Floating Solar and Plasma Torch Tunnel Boring; and, in his spare time, he surfs and travels, especially in France.
