“Technology has always played a role in human community building: fire was arguably one of the first technologies, and was the first notable place humans gathered in community to share stories; writing gave us community building through the rapid dissemination of ideas, first through more primitive methods, and eventually via newspapers and books. More recently, the Internet has given would-be community-builders potent new tools – but whether those tools will ultimately serve to build or tear-down community remains to be seen.”
